Siesta Key is a barrier island off of the Sarasota Mainland on the central west coast of Florida. Siesta Key is approximately 55 miles south of Tampa, Florida. It lies between Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico and, although a portion of it falls within the City boundary of Sarasota, the majority of Siesta Key is in Sarasota County. 


Siesta Key is an 8-mile-long, crescent-shaped barrier island connected to the Mainland of Sarasota by two bridges. The characteristic white sand that have made Siesta Key famous is made up of 99% pure quartz that stays cool under your feet.


Siesta Key is governed by Sarasota County which consists of the cities of Sarasota, Venice, North Port, and the Town of Longboat Key. The Sarasota County Commission consists of five elected commissioners who are elected to four-year terms. Each commissioner must live in a specific district. 

Sarasota County with three utility services - water/sewer, storm water and solid waste, a full-service transit operation, and a full range of community and human services like parks and recreation, EMS and health-related services, planning, zoning, permitting, and environmental resource management.


With 4 major airports within 90 miles, getting to and from Siesta Key is easy for residents and visitors who don’t want to undo the serenity of their vacation with a stressful trek back home.

The closest airport is the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, but we are a close drive from many area airports, including Tampa International Airport, St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport, and the Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers.

Sarasota has numerous churches, synagogues and spiritual centers that welcome visitors and residents alike. Three of those places of worship are right here on Siesta Key.

Siesta Key is part of the Sarasota County School District and our students attend Phillippi Shores Elementary School, Brookside Middle School, and Sarasota High School. The district also offers a school for gifted students and magnet programs for arts and sciences. There are also many private and parochial schools in the area, including private preschool and elementary school opportunities right on the key.

Sarasota has many fine libraries, but you will have to leave the key in order to get to them. Gulf Gate Library, Fruitville Library, Selby Library and North Sarasota Library are just a short drive from beautiful Siesta Key.
