Location
Siesta Key is a barrier island off of the Sarasota Mainland on the central west coast of Florida. It lies between Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico and, although a portion of it falls within the City boundary of Sarasota, the majority of Siesta Key is in Sarasota County. Siesta Key is approximately 55 miles south of Tampa, Florida.
Geography
Siesta Key is an 8-mile-long, crescent-shaped barrier island connected to the Mainland of Sarasota by two bridges.
Government
Siesta Key is governed by Sarasota County. The Sarasota County Commission consists of five elected commissioners.
Airports
The closest airport is the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, but we are a close drive from many area airports, including Tampa International Airport, St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport, and the Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers.

Education
Siesta Key is part of the Sarasota County School District and our students attend Phillippi Shores Elementary School, Brookside Middle School, and Sarasota High School. The district also offers a school for gifted students and magnet programs for arts and sciences. There are also many private and parochial schools in the area, including private preschool and elementary school opportunities right on the key.
Libraries
There are many fine libraries in the Sarasota area, but you will have to leave the key to get to them.
